Parent Visas

An Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen may sponsor a parent/s provided the Parent applicant satisfies a number of criteria, including the critical “balance of family test”. 

Parent visa subclasses:
  • Aged Parent (Residence) Visa — (subclass 804)
  • Parent (Migrant) Visa — (subclass 103)
  • Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa — (subclass 173)
  • Contributory Aged Parent (Residence) Visa — (subclass 864)
  • Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) Visa — (subclass 884)

Main differences:

Parent category:
  • Significantly lower second VAC
  • Lower Assurance of Support (AOS) bond
  • Shorter AOS bond period
  • Lower cost/longer wait option

Contributory Parent category:
  • Significantly higher second VAC
  • Higher AOS bond
  • Longer AOS bond period
  • Higher cost/shorter wait option
